| TEAM CANADA - GOBI MARCH
In June 2007, Team Gobi Canada will be embarking on an epic race across the Gobi desert known as the ‘Gobi March’ to attempt a first place team finish – the first ever by an all-Canadian team. We are taking on this challenge in an effort to raise awareness for breast cancer prevention and research. The Gobi March is held annually in honor of three great women – Mildred Cable and Eva and Francesca French– who crosed the Gobi Desert five times about 100 years ago. Rob Mackay
Hailing from the mountains of North Vancouver, Rob Mackay is leading Team Gobi Canada in 2007. Rob’s thirst for adventure has taken him to trek the Annapurna range in Nepal, ride the Trans-Manchurian train from Beijing to Moscow and in 2005 fi nish the Marathon Des Sables otherwise known as ‘The Toughest Footrace on Earth’. With this experience, Rob leads Team Gobi as Team Captain.
Donald Peterson
Vancouver Island native Donald Peterson is a single father who took up running as a way to get fit and stay in shape. Introduced to the multi-stage ultra-marathon at a slide show of the Marathon des Sables he was instantly hooked on the idea. He is craving the challenge (both mentally and physically) that it will introduce to his life. It is also the adventure that is drawing him, the accomplishment of doing something that few others have done and few will ever do. With previous military experience Donald’s role for the team is that of details. His discipline and acute eye for detail will be the foundation for Team Gobi.
Donna Carrigan
Born in northern BC, Donna Carrigan often chooses challenging roles in life including her current position at a fastpaced management consulting firm located in Victoria BC. Although Donna is a relative newcomer to running, this race appeals to her competitive and stubborn nature. She is motivated by the fact that very few women compete in ultramarathons. As the novice, Donna will support Team Gobi by reminding them of the heart and determination needed to make this attempt.
